Many who seek deliverance ministry are afraid of
being ridiculed; that their strange experiences won't be believed. It
takes courage to overcome this fear. This web page may help those who
are not yet ready to share their experiences. However, if you are not yet ready to talk to someone and ask for help, the following three prayers are extremely good as a form of 'self-help'. Ideally, find yourself a quiet place and, while reciting one or more of the prayers, try to imagine a semi-transparent dome around yourself, your loved ones, your home. If you feel that your home is under some sort of threat, you could even walk around the boundary reciting any or all of these prayers. If you find that these prayers aren't having the desired effect, the next step is to contact a sympathetic priest or minister in your area, explain as best you can what is happening and ask for help.
If neither of the above two courses of action appear to be effective then, if you live in the Auckland area, feel free to contact us using the Email link at the bottom of this page.
Deliverance Prayers
Most of us know this first one, but what may not be generally known is that it is also regarded as a minor form of exorcism.
Our Father (Pater Noster)
Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
This next one, from that well known saint of the Celtic Church, Saint Patrick, is called St. Patrick's Breastplate or The Deer's Cry. The verse in light blue is often used by itself in times of emergency or danger. However, reciting the full prayer is very effective and highly recommended. I frequently recite this one first thing in the morning. I For my shield this day A mighty power: The Holy Trinity! Affirming threeness, Confessing oneness, In the making of all Through love...
II For my shield this day I call: Christ's power in his coming and in his baptising, Christ's power in his dying On the cross, his arising from the tomb, his ascending; Christ's power in his coming for judgement and ending.
III For my shield this day I call: strong power of the seraphim with angels obeying, and archangels attending, in the glorious company of the holy and risen ones, in the prayers of the fathers, in visions prophetic and commands apostolic, in the annals of witness, in virginal innocence, to the deeds of steadfast men.
IV For my shield this day I call: Heaven's might, Moon's whiteness, Fire's glory, Lightning's swiftness, Wind's wildness, Ocean's depth, Earth's solidity, Rock's immobility.
V This day I call to me: God's strength to direct me, God's power to sustain me, God's wisdom to guide me, God's vision to light me, God's ear to my hearing, God's word to my speaking, God's hand to uphold me, God's pathway before me, God's shield to protect me, God's legions to save me; from snares of the demons, from evil enticements, from failings of nature, from one man or many that seek to destroy me, anear or afar.
VI Around me I gather; these forces to save my soul and my body from dark powers that assail me: against false prophesyings, against pagan devisings, against heretical lying and false gods all around me. Against spells cast by women, by blacksmiths, by Druids, against knowledge unlawful that injures the body, that injures the spirit.
VII Be Christ this day my strong protector: against poison and burning against drowning and wounding, through reward wide and plenty...
Christ beside me, Christ before me; Christ behind me, Christ within me; Christ beneath me, Christ above me; Christ to right of me, Christ to left of me; Christ in my lying, my sitting, my rising; Christ in heart of all who know me, Christ on tongue of all who meet me, Christ in eye of all who see me, Christ in ear of all who hear me.
VIII For my shield this day I call: a mighty power: the Holy Trinity! affirming threeness, confessing oneness in the making of all - through love...
IX For to the Lord belongs salvation, and to the Lord belongs salvation and to Christ belongs salvation. May your salvation, Lord, be with us always. (Domini est salus, Domini est salus, Christi est salus, Salus tua, Domine, sit semper nobiscum)
... translation by Neil Dermott O'Donoghue
This third one was written in 1998 by the Reverend Helen Harrison.
O Brilliant Glory, O Brilliant Glory, O Brilliant Glory, As the rising sun scatters the darkness of night, May your divine presence scatter every shadow of evil.
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia.
In the name of my exalted Ruler, Jesus Christ, If any spell or curse strikes me, Lord, turn it. If any fairy or sprite tempts me, Lord, suppress it. If any beast or monster attacks me, Lord, repel it. If any ghost or ghoul haunts me, Lord, banish it. If any devil or demon ensnares me, Lord, break it. If the prince of hell tests me, Lord, forbid it.
God, show me if any unholy forces are affecting meÉ I turn them over to your control. By the authority of the One who overthrew evil, I command these entities to obey. Depart in the name of the Father. Be gone in the name of the Son. Disappear in the name of the Spirit. Flee in the name of the Three in One.
The power of the Father surround me. The blood of Jesus cover me. The peace of the Spirit fill me. The love of the sacred Three uphold me. Amen.
In the name of my triumphant King, Jesus Christ, If I'm convinced to rely on any ungodly word or deed to achieve my ambitions, Lord, I disclaim it. If I'm persuaded to exploit the power of the curse or damnation, Lord, I refuse it. If I'm attracted by the novelty of any occult practice, Lord, I dismiss it. If I'm lured by the promise of gain from any magical art, Lord, I renounce it. If I'm seduced by the lies of the prince of hell, Lord, I reject it. If I'm drawn to worship any divinity other than you, Lord, I disavow it.
God, bring to mind any way I have compromised my faith or imperiled my soul I turn it over to your control.
By the courage of the One who descended into hell and released its captives, I vow I will not succumb to these forces. I will prevail in the name of the Father. I will overcome in the name of the Son. I will succeed in the name of the Spirit. I will win in the name of the Three in One.
The power of the Father surround me. The blood of Jesus cover me. The peace of the Spirit fill me. The love of the sacred Three uphold me. Amen.
In the name of my conquering Chief, Jesus Christ, From any wicked intentions, Lord, rescue me. From any iniquitous secrets, Lord, deliver me. From any fallacious rumors, Lord, defend me. From any treacherous duplicity, Lord, release me. From any malicious alliance, Lord, free me. From any malevolent conspiracy, Lord, save me. God, reveal to me anyone who seeks to sabotage me- I turn it over to your control.
By the judgment of the One who exposed the abominable plans of the evil one, I order the deception to stop. Be dispersed in the name of the Father. Be disbanded in the name of the Son. Be dissolved in the name of the Spirit. Be dispelled in the name of the Three in One.
The power of the Father surround me. The blood of Jesus cover me. The peace of the Spirit fill me. The love of the sacred Three uphold me. Amen.
In the name of my victorious Champion, Jesus Christ, I call upon all the mighty forces of God to aid me.
Holy Spirit, protect me. Heaven's saints, guard me. Hosts of angels, attack for me. Nature's fury, fight for me. Body and Blood, empower me. Sacred Scripture, encourage me. Fervent prayer, inspire me.
God, disclose to me what I should do to increase my faith- I open myself to instruction and pledge my obedience. By the strength of the One who defeated death, I place my weaknesses under your protection.
Turn back all that would confront me. Throw off all that would oppress me. Trample down all that would undermine me. Stand between me and all that would oppose me.
The power of the Father surround me. The blood of Jesus cover me. The peace of the Spirit fill me. The love of the sacred Three uphold me. Amen.
O Brilliant Glory, O Brilliant Glory, O Brilliant Glory, Encompass me with your invincible presence, That I may ever dwell in safety.
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia.
Through Christ my Lord. Amen.
